Trainer Edgar Coto secured his first victory as a conditioner with his first starter Saturday at Gulfstream Park.

Sending out My Rich Uncle (Uncle Chuck) in the second race, a $35,000 maiden claimer, Coto is also the owner of the 2-year-old Florida-bred. He graduated in the race by 1 3/4 lengths with Jose Morelos in the irons.

“It feels great to win my first race with my first starter,” Coto said, who also claimed his first two victories as an owner last year at the venue. “I was working for Mary Lightner in Ocala [who saddled Coto-owned Imperiously to those aforementioned two victories], but now I am doing everything myself.”

Coto has four horses in training at Gulfstream Park, one of which was a homebred who was formerly saddled by Lightner for a third-place finish May 22.
